I don't know what happened this year! I am usually on it as soon as school starts, but with two of my three kids switching schools this year and helping them through the transition, the ball was dropped. I failed to plan our winter escape. With sour faces and teenage attitudes facing me, I had to think quick and thanks to the internets we landed at Minerals Resort and Spa in Vernon, NJ.
As a Native New Yorker I guess this resort area was not on my radar because I never thought of escaping the cold by going further into the cold. I usually need body heat, sun and sand to make a vacation...not any more! This quick getaway was just what me and my crew needed.
Minerals Resort and Spa is part of a resort community under the Crystal Springs Resort umbrella. Located in the Northwest New Jersey mountains this resort community is just an hour and a half away from NYC which makes for the perfect, easy on the gas tank, quick trip. I have to admit I was a bit nervous about this excursion because I knew that every other family in the NYC area with kids out of school for President's Week had the same idea as me so I had braced myself for the worst. I was ready for the overcrowding and long lines, but was pleasantly surprised that even during a busy week, we moved about comfortably throughout the property and didn't have to fight for pool space which made the kiddies love me!
Overall, this particular resort is great for active families due to its sports offerings. The skiing, personal training, fitness classes, indoor tennis, racquetball, basketball and kids' programs keep the sports enthusiast happy; while the lay around the pool, lounge and luxuriate set can spa all day! I left the property totally relaxed and rejuvenated and my kids were equally satisfied. Needless to say, I am booking my return soon.
