Winter Getaway Style Report

Helen NurseComment

I need a getaway every winter due to the winter blues which gets worse as I get older.  We escaped the cold for some sun and to work on my future winter escape plan.

This is how it all started.  I needed sun on my feet and he obliged. Coat from Marche Rue Dix/Le Sport Sac tote/Target pants/Converse on the feet.

Duy Anh Nhan Duc and Isabelle Chapuis...Vegetation...Photography

Helen NurseComment

Duy Anh Nhan Duc created what Isabelle Chapuis captured so brilliantly.  From Vietnam to France this self taught artist's work caught my eye because I need all things spring in my life right now.  I appreciate the "quiet" of winter, but can't wait to welcome the awakening of spring...allergies and all!  Though most of these images represent the allergy sufferer's nightmare, they are stunning.  Just missed his instillation at Colette...what timing:-(

Cake&Whiskey

I almost fell out of my seat when I saw the cover for the upcoming issue for Cake&Whiskey magazine.  Tears were flowing and my hands were shaking as I wrote the editor, Megan Smith, to thank her for this great honor.

If you are not familiar with Cake&Whiskey, do yourself a favor and subscribe to this beautiful and insightful magazine which explores the sweet and spirited side of business from a woman's eyes and encourages us to "chase our dreams with purpose and passion."  The book hits the shelves in February, but subscription can be bought here http://bit.ly/1vEdEoH

TracyTastings: Paris 2015 - came, saw, conquered

Helen NurseComment

Where do I start?!  I have to say that the inaugural TracyTastings: Paris was EVERYTHING!!!! It has taken two weeks for me to come off of my high and actually do this blog post.  I want to share just a few highlights from my trip which do not nearly come close to how much fun we had, but it is a start.  The shopping was amazing as always, which is why we shop Paris in the first place!  The company was incredible and a blessing.  I cannot say enough about the group of women who blessed me with their presence and trusted in me enough to lead them through the streets of Paris and guide them in a shopping experience like none other!  We showed up and showed out!  I cannot wait to do it again during the summer sales.  Stay tuned for information regarding TracyTastings: Paris Été.  It is going to be another incredible shopping experience that you do not want to miss!

TracyTastings: Paris...countdown

Helen NurseComment

I am so excited to embark on another part of my brand expansion!  TracyTastings: Paris is the first of several international shopping experiences that TracyChambers Vintage offers.  Taking advantage of the super sales in Paris that only happen twice a year, January and June, I thought this would be an excellent way to get a group of women together to travel, shop, taste, tip and twirl.  Stay tuned for updates throughout the trip.

She Better Mind Her Business Tuesdays

Helen NurseComment

Every Tuesday for the past three years or so I have had meetings for stay-at-home moms who want to start a business.  I have seen businesses start from scratch, grow, change, and expand in these past three years and am excited to know that my meetings have had a significant impact of other women's lives.  Through this organization, I grant a mom seed money to start a business and I am extremely proud of that.  The proceeds for the grant come directly from TracyChambers Vintage sales, so for all of you who have purchased anything from me, thank you.  I am grateful to your patronage because you help make this possible.

Every week I like to share a story about a woman in business as inspiration or share an article that will provide tips or information about running a successful business.  This week I am sharing a piece from SCORE that I hope you enjoy.

Back to school chicken soup

Helen NurseComment

It's back to school time for many families with school aged children and sending them back to school might mean sore throats and sniffles.  This is the time of year when I make sure my kids  are extra diligent about washing their hands, drinking lots of water and I pull out my soup pot.  Home made chicken soup has always helped me manage the cold/flu season and cut down on illness in my home.  Here is the simple recipe I use for my pot of "magic."

Onion, garlic, chicken on the bone, seasonings, kale or spinach, lemon, pasta, water Sautee onion and garlic in pot.  Add roast chicken leftovers, 6-8 cups of water, seasonings, fresh kale/spinach.  Cook for about 5 minutes on medium.  Squeeze fresh lemon and cook on medium/low for 15 minutes.  Add pasta, I prefer angel hair, and cook for additional 10-15 minutes.  Add additional water and seasonings to taste.  Enjoy and stay healthy!

Paying It Forward Realized

Helen NurseComment

This past month has been extremely busy here at the headquarters.  Between end of school activities, preparing kids for overnight class trips, graduations, organizing a mompreneur "bizaar," three different summer camp drop offs, and renovating the exterior of my house,  I am whipped!  However, I am excited and proud of my latest accomplishment of finally awarding my first grant to a mom to support her business pursuits.

When I started my journey to entrepreneurship I had been unemployed for ten years and did not know where I would get the money to start my business so I entered this arena slooowly. Luckily I had a great support system and was able to work on my business a little at a time.  I figured if I was facing this challenge there were many other women who were experiencing the same.  That is when I decided that I wanted to help other women who might have been unemployed for a period of time and want to start a business.  Therefore, I started She Better Mind Her Business, Inc. (SBMHB) and fast forward, I finally realized that goal with my first micro grant last month.  Part of the sales from TracyChambers Vintage are used for this grant, so a big thank you to everyone who has purchased a dress, skirt, belt, etc. and contributed to this goal.

My first grant awardee is Eisa Ulen-Richardson, founder and director of Camp Fort Greene which will serve Brooklyn children ages 4-6.  The camp's motto is "our neighborhood is our campground" and will have an emphasis on science and art.  For more information visit www.campfortgreene.com.

Toga S/S 2014 - The Future of Vintage

Helen NurseComment

Vintage shapes with geometric and futuristic lines - Toga's S/S 2014 collection entitled "Line, Block, Tribal" reminds me of Prada of the future. Yasuko Furuta, the designer behind Japanese label Toga, launched her collection in 1997 and has won multiple Mainichi Fashion Awards since.  A vintage lover like myself, Yasuko, draws her inspiration from vintage pieces and even opened a vintage shop next to her store.  She mixes the old and new with perfection and hit the nail on the head with this collection.  It is the perfect combination and the future of vintage.

Every week I have a new obsession, and this week it's the "date night" sandal.  Though I haven't had a reason to wear them lately, it doesn't hurt to plan ahead.  Enjoy the shoe porn!

JCrew weekend blues

Helen NurseComment

Just got paid...Friday night...looking forward to the weekend and I have the weekend blues on my mind.  JCrew's "Passage to India" looks like "Paris in India" and inspires me to dig out my seersucker skirt and my blue stripes and hit the streets.  Here's to a great weekend.
